There are some tools that help yogis with their quest on the mat.
Yoga props are useful during practice, so use whatever tools you have available to aid you during your time on the mat. Look around your house and see what you have in your inventory - I know you can locate something around you available for use!
The most important part of your practice is your Space. Whether you have a mat or not, your practice in a classroom or your office, your yoga space is your own to cultivate.
Let your Yoga Space be clean and accommodating for you while you take class.
Yoga mats help us maintain a space for ourselves - and offer padding for our bodies!
These are great for all Yoga Classes.
A towel or blanket big enough for you to lie down on head-to-toe are great alternatives for a yoga mat. Beware of sliding!
Additional blankets and cushions help support our body during some yoga poses. Sometimes we fold a blanket or two so we can sit with some height under our hips or softness for our knees.
Any blanket or towel are great alternatives for a yoga blanket.
Bolsters and cushions bring an extra level of comfort to your practice. They can be used like a block or a blanket and are especially nice for restorative Yin classes.
Any pillow will do the trick.
Yoga blocks are helpful tools that bring the floor up to meet our body where it is.
There are so many household objects that are great substitutes for blocks: small stack of books, a ream of paper or two, familiar cleaning agents - anything stable will do!
Yoga straps are the tools that bring us closer to our bodies.
Your wardrobe can offer some support! The sash from your robe or jacket, a belt, dust off an old tie, or a hand towel will do.
The wall is a friend that helps us with balance, support, and stability.
If you’re practicing in a room without comfortable wall space, other furniture such as a table or back of a stable chair can help keep us up and balanced.
If you have any other question about yoga props, let me know!
